GETTING STARTED -

The Dongle

Attach the gray RS232 9m/9f dongle to the PC COM port you will use to control the LX1 or your VCR. Then attach the RS422 adapter to the dongle, and from there to your LX1 or VCR. In other words, the dongle is the 'closest' item to your PC COM port, then the RS422 adapter, then your VCR or LX1. Then be sure the ELX1Settings.txt file correctly identifies whether you are controlling the LX1 or a VCR (so the correct GUI control panel will appear when you run ELX1) *and* be sure that the COM port setting (in the ELX1Settings.txt file) matches the COM port you are actually using.

Installation

Simply drag/drop the ELX1 folder from the CD to your hard drive - *DONE*.

Run ELX1

Now you can run the ELX1 'exe' program file, but it's wise to have a look at the Documentation folder first. In any case, ELX1 is pretty straightforward. The first window you'll see is the brief license announcement, then a GUI will open which is either a control panel for a VCR or the LX1, depending on your settings. When you're ready to convert a tape EDL to LX1 format, just click on the LX1 EDLMaker button and another window will open to let you import tape EDLs and change them into LX1 type EDLs with ease. There are a lot of options in the EDLMaker window, so please peruse the documentation folder for complete information.

1. You should already have the DEMO version, so when you receive the ELX1 full version software, you should already be good to go.

2. Then be sure you have your COM port set properly in the ELX1Settings.txt file (see below).

3. You probably need to attach a RS422 adapter to the non-PC end of the dongle and then cable that to the RS422-control port (input) on the LX1 or your RS422 VTR. Be sure you don't put the RS422 adapter right onto your COM port, the dongle needs to be the 'closest' thing to the COM port. Your RS422 adapter will work correctly when it is 'chained' to our ELX1 serial port dongle.

4. Modify the ELX1Settings.txt file if necessary so the COM port is correct for your setup.

5. Run ELX1.exe (the main program).

6. DEMO VERSION LIMITATIONS:

a. The program will run for 3 minutes and then stop. You can run it again.
b. You are limited to a very short LX1 EDL creation process.
c. The SCRIPT function button is disabled.
